Day 72 of 100 Days of Good Karma.
I try to keep the house clean during the week so that on the weekends we don’t have to worry about it. But every weekend I underestimate the mess potential of two little people.
My children are experts at taking over every room they enter.
I ran an experiment this weekend: What would it take to keep the house clean on Saturday and Sunday?
We made it through Saturday without too much trouble. Probably because I had them doing chores all day and by the time they sat down they were too tired to destroy anything.
Since the house was clean Sunday morning I decided to go through clothes and see what doesn’t fit them anymore.
(Really, this is just an excuse to look productive while hiding in a small space and listening to audio books. Right now it’s Orange is the New Black, by Piper Kerman. I loved the Netflix show so much I bought the book.)
While I was in the closet my clean house exploded.
I don’t know how they manage it. I mean, I wasn’t in there that long.
I emerged to find:
And yet, somehow they’re shocked when I tell them to pick up.
Me (clapping hands to get their attention): Okay. Time to clean up.
Connor (pops his head out of his pillow fort, eyes wide): What?!
Me (hands on hips): The two of you need to clean up the messes you made.
Hannah (as though I’m sending her to the gallows): The whole house?
Me (gritting teeth): Yes. The whole house.
They grudgingly picked up, though I did let them leave the hybrid Bat Cave/Dream Castle in Hannah’s room.
Bruce Wayne always seemed too tense. I thought he could use some alone time with twenty Barbies.
Today’s silver lining: We managed to go to bed Sunday night with the house more or less intact.
And I peeked into Hannah’s room this morning. I think Batman was smiling.
What’s your silver lining today? I love comments!
