Hi, Reader! I’m Meghan. Welcome to Getting the Words Wrong! I’m so excited to have you here! Allow me to offer you a virtual cup of coffee.
A few things about the blog you’re about to read.
I’m yet another aspiring-to-be-published writer on the internet. I like to write about those little moments that throw a monkey wrench into the lives of people everywhere.
You know the ones I’m talking about.
Like that time you found yourself in an elevator and an electronic voice announced, “Going down.” You had time to think how much better that would sound if the voice belonged to Matthew McConaughey. And then the elevator doors opened and your manager stepped inside giving you a quizzical look and asked why you were smiling.
Or the time you were sitting in a meeting and you got an itch in the place you hope to never, ever, ever get an itch in public.
Or like every time Manfred Mann’s song ‘Blinded by the Light’ comes on the classic rock station. You turn it up and happily sing along, “Wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night.” You’ve looked up the lyrics. You know the band really said, “Revved up like a deuce…” But singing the wrong version at the top of your lungs makes the song sooo much better.
That’s what this blog is about. It’s about life’s little absurdities. About those moments that make you cringe or maybe put a small, private smile on your face.
It’s about getting the words wrong, but singing your version anyway.
